Feed Your Family On A Budget
We could save a lot of money if we just did not need to eat. Unfortunately, that is not an option. Eating is a very critical part of our well-being and is unavoidable. Therefore, shopping for food is a necessary part of living. There are many things we can do, however, to help cut the food bill and keep as much of our hard earned money in our pockets rather than in the merchant’s cash register.
Here are just a few ideas to help you hold on to more of your money every time you shop.
1) Plan your meals: Create a weekly or even monthly menu. Make a shopping list from this menu and check your kitchen for items on the list that you already have. This will cut down on the unnecessary expense of purchasing an item you already have.
2) Keep your pantry organized: Organizing your pantry and checking expiration dates will help determine what you have and what you need to put on your shopping list.
3) Don’t get distracted from your list: Be sure everything you need is on your list and stick to it. Try to shop when the stores aren’t busy so that you can get in and out quickly.
4) Go crazy with coupons: Combining grocery coupons with weekly sales can make a huge difference in your grocery bill. Place the coupons you plan to use in your purse or vehicle to be sure they are not forgotten.
5) Go vegan: One or two meatless dishes a week not only saves money, but helps you get your recommended daily allowance of vegetables.
6) Buy in bulk: Stock up on big packs of meat and poultry and divide into meal size portions to freeze.
7) Be creative with leftovers: Finding creative ways to serve leftovers is a great way to stretch your budget.
Make your own frozen dinners: There are several cookbooks and websites with tips on cooking in bulk. Set aside some time each month to prepare extra meals. Package them in freezer bags or air tight containers and store them in the freezer. Not only will this save you money, but it will keep you from ordering takeout on days that you are just too tired to cook.
Follow these simple guidelines and you are sure to save big bucks on your grocery budget. You will also see that you don’t seem to miss those unnecessary luxuries as much as you expected to.
